New World Crosser version launched in Germany

Yamaha announced a while ago that the Worldcrosser version of the Super Tenere, which had been doing he rounds of the motorcycle shows for the last year, would be launched as a production model. For those of us that had been drooling over the World Crosser this was very exciting news!

The reality turned out to be a bit of a letdown – changes to the production World Crosser, compared to the standard bike, are largely cosmetic – some carbon fibre here, some stickers there. It still has the same crappy skidplate that Yamaha have been offering for the Super Tenere. Pictures show the bike with (what look like) TKC 80’s and Akropovic exhaust. These add to its dirt and performance cred – but don’t actually come with the bike!

Don’t get me wrong – it will still be a nice bike and price is not bad (a “genuine” World Crosser I suspect would have been several thousand Euros more). Just a bit disappointing that it’s more of a marketing exercise than a tangible upgrade over the standard model. Pricing is lower for the 2011 model, maybe they are dressing up some old stock to move them?
