Winter is here… or at least, showing signs of impending arrival…

Hippo Hands on the Super TenereIt’s getting colder now, but not as cold as usual at this time of year. Still, time to break out the cold-weather gear. I went on on COG ride a couple of Sundays ago, leaving DC at 7am – temps were around freezing at that time. It did warm up to the mid-40’s later in the day, but for the 2.5 hour trip to Williamsburg first thing in the morning, I appreciated the Symtec heated grips, Warm’nSafe heated gloves, and Hippo Hands. Overkill I know – in the past in similar conditions I’ve been comfortable with just the Hippo Hands, heated grips and summer gloves. But the heated gloves are a new thing for me and wanted to try various combinations.

Turns out that at temps just a bit above freezing, I don’t really need all 3 – no surprise there. Any combination of HH, medium-weight regular gloves and hot grips, or heated gloves and hot grips would be fine. Colder than that I’d be glad to have all of them though.

The Hippo Hands, originally bought for my V-Strom, fit even better on the Super Tenere.

Winter riding is special – as long as you can stay warm. Here’s to it!
